Hand sculpted gemstone rings

Our rings start off sculpted entirely by hand (not 3D printed) in our Sydney studio using the old world lost wax making technique. In the same way that ceramics are made from clay and fired in a kiln, our jewellery is made from jewellers wax and then cast in a kiln.

After sketching the design, the ring is brought to life using jewellers wax. Every ring starts off as a wax sculpture and when it's cast in the kiln, the metal is poured in, melting the wax sculpture entirely and what's left is a perfect replica in metal.

This technique dates back thousands of years and is an art form in itself. It's a wonderful way to create unique one of a kind jewellery with gorgeous and organic textures that you won't see in regular store bought jewellery. It's a craft generally practiced by independent jewellery artists.

Every design is hand sculpted in house and is original. Our pieces are influenced by nature, astrology as well as impressionist artists like Monet and Van Gogh as well as Renaissance masters like Boticelli. These influences will either be direct or in the use of colour. For example, our Astra ring in Amethyst and Pink Tourmaline was influenced by Monet's Water Lillies. Our Alpine flower ring was influenced by the Edelweiss flower that grows in the high mountain regions in Europe.

As the inspiration of our rings are rooted in story and history, it means that your piece will stand out from repetitive copies that exist in the mass market.

Have fun with styling your new ring! Venus Trine Mars rings were designed to be worn as a statement on its own or paired with multiple other rings. If you like wearing three or more rings you can either pair them together based on a theme or by colour.

For example, if you're eyeing the butterfly ring in pink tourmaline, you can go with a minimal look and style it based on theme, pairing it with the Alpine flower ring. Or you can style it based on colour and pair it with the Rose Quartz ring and the Astra ring in garnet and pink tourmaline.

Whatever your preference, just know that our rings were designed to be worn with the existing jewellery in your own collection.

Our rings follow standard Australia and US ring sizing that is used by international jewellers. We also use half sizes which means you can find your perfect fit. If you already know your ring size, you can order the same size when shopping with us. Just remember to base your ring size on a ring that you own that has a regular band and not a chunky signet style ring.

If you wear thick/chunky signet rings you may need to size down a full size.

The metals we use range from nickel free gold plated (brass base), gold vermeil (silver base) and solid sterling silver. We don't use nickel in any of the rings which means that your piece is hypoallergenic and safe to wear if you have nickel allergies.

Our gold pieces are available in 18/20 carat yellow gold plated as well as 20 carat rose gold plated. Our silver pieces are solid sterling silver.

Every gold piece is finished with a professional grade anti-tarnish E-coating. This is a superior method of gold plating and ensures the gold maintains its vibrant lustre for years to come.

Traditionally hand sculpted pieces crafted from jewellery artists are made in solid gold only. This means that the investment for a unique artisanal designs is significantly higher and can be in the thousands for just the metal alone.

Our goal is for our sculpted pieces to be something that everyday women can wear, so we chose to use gold plated, gold vermeil and silver to ensure our jewellery is accessible to all.

The world of gold plated jewellery has become more confusing for consumers over the last few years.

Fast fashion has introduced "flash plated" jewellery which has around 0.01 microns of gold applied - it's microscopic. Regular gold plating has an average of 0.5-1 microns of gold applied - 50 times thicker than flash plated jewellery.

More recently gold vermeil has become popular as another alternative. The classification of gold vermeil in the international jewellery world is strict. For a piece to be labelled as gold vermeil it has to have a solid sterling silver base with at least 2.5 microns thick pure gold plating. This is 250 times thicker than flash plated mass produced jewellery.

We reserve our gold vermeil pieces for our highest quality precious gemstones, so our Butterfly rings with Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald have 2.5 microns of gold plating over a base of silver.

While we welcome the introduction of lab grown diamonds to the mass market we use natural precious and semi-precious gemstones.

As crystal lovers at our core, we believe that every gemstone carries their own unique energy and that only natural gemstones will radiate the unique meaning that they each encompass.

The magic of natural gemstones is that no two are identical which makes every gemstone in our store special.

In the gemstone world, precious gemstones include only diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald. While all other stones are classified as semi precious.

At Venus Trine Mars, we use both precious and semi precious gemstones ranging from Ruby, Sapphire, Aquamarine, Moonston, Rose Quartz and more.

While these are strict classifications, we believe that all coloured gemstones are beautiful and you should pick whichever gemstone ring catches your eye and speaks to you.

Yes, the gemstones we've chosen are all durable enough for daily wear. We hand set every ring in our signature double gallery basket setting with four secure prongs, ensuring the stability of the gemstone in your ring.

Our bezel set gemstone rings are also incredibly durable with all sides of the stone perfectly secured in place for everyday wear.

Your ring will come in a tarnish resistant jewellery box that you can keep your piece in. You can also store it in the complimentary suede jewellery pouch when travelling.

If you prefer storing your jewellery on a jewellery tray that's ok too. But keep the tray away from direct sunlight in a dry, cool place in your room.
